This is a page for frequently asked questions I get in emails. I know there are probably hundreds of questions you have prior to contacting me, but here are a few of the most common ones.
What equipment do you shoot with?
I use a Nikon D700 as my camera body, and other various Nikon lenses, such as a Nikon 135mm f/2, Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, Nikon 35mm f/1.8, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8, Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro, and various other equipment ranging from hot shoe flashes, strobes, light stands, diffusers, wireless triggers, tons of extra batteries, etc.
How long have you been shooting weddings?
I’ve been shooting commissioned work for several years now, mainly automotive as mentioned before, but just recently started doing more weddings/engagements/portrait shoots since early 2009. I have started to focus much and devote much more time to this as of lately and given the automotive stuff a little rest. Getting to interact with hundreds of people is a lot more fun than 4 tires.
Do you have any recognitions?
I do actually! I was named one of the Top 5 photographers of 2009 you might not have known about in early 2010 by Scott Kelby. For those unfamiliar, Scott Kelby is a world-renowned photographer, designer, and an award-winning author of more than 40 books that deal with the computer/graphic arts industry. What is your style of photography?
I usually try to go with a candid/photo-journalistic style. The photos tend to tell a story from beginning to end. Just like any wedding though, there’s always going to be the posed shots of family members that we do after the ceremony, just to make sure Mom and Dad are happy as well. I like to use a lot of negative space in my photos. I always help in posing people in the right places, but also greatly rely on everyone paying attention to direction. If you got an aunt or uncle that doesn’t speak English, don’t be shy to tell them what I just said (: My #1 rule though is all about just being ourselves.
What kind of editing do you do?
I generally go with a retro or antique style of editing. Some people like it while others don’t, so when you get your photos, you’ll receive a folder of images that I chose to edit with my style, as well as the ones that are simply just color corrected.
How long after a shoot will I be able to get my photos?
Maximum you’ll have to wait is 3 months. BUT, I’ve never had someone wait any longer than 2-3 weeks for the final images. There have been times where I’ve had all the highlights of the wedding ready within 24 hours. Portraits take a lot less time since there’s a smaller quantity of images to go through, but I would say on average, expect around a one week turn around time.
I only need X amount of coverage, what can you do?
If you need just a small event covered or maybe only a couple hours worth of coverage of a ceremony and reception, send me an email and we can work something out. This is usually the case for smaller weddings that don’t necessarily need 12+ hours of coverage.
